Hispanic Heritage Month is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to celebrate my culture, my roots, and the values that have shaped who I am. It is a time to recognize the contributions of Hispanic communities while also reflecting on the experiences, traditions, and sense of family that have guided me throughout my life.

I moved to Rochester, NY more than 32 years ago, and since that time, helping people in my community has been an important part of my life and work. I have always believed that serving others is one of the most meaningful ways to make a difference, and I have been fortunate to build a career centered around that purpose.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in roles that allowed me to support individuals and families during important moments in their lives. Through my experience at the Department of Social Services, my work with COVID-19 contact tracing, and now nearly four years at Fidelis Care, I have helped people find information, navigate challenges, and connect with resources they need. Each experience has reinforced the importance of compassion, trust, and treating every person with dignity and respect.

This month is especially personal to me because I am proud to serve and support the Spanish-speaking community. Many families face barriers when trying to understand their healthcare options and being able to communicate with them in their preferred language can make a meaningful difference. Helping people learn about their coverage options, enroll in health insurance, and access care gives me a strong sense of purpose.

For me, Hispanic Heritage Month is not only a celebration of where we came from but also a reminder of the responsibility and honor I feel in helping others feel informed, supported, and cared for. By helping families access the healthcare coverage they need, I believe I can contribute to a healthier, stronger, and more empowered Hispanic community for generations to come.
