National Pharmacy Week, October 18-24, celebrates pharmacy professionals and the important role they play in helping people get and use their medications safely and effectively. At Fidelis Care, our pharmacy team supports our members, providers, and care teams by helping to improve health outcomes through medication management, clinical expertise, and compassionate service. In observance of National Pharmacy Week, we spoke with four members of our pharmacy staff about their journey and the impact of pharmacy professionals everywhere.

Fidelis Care: What inspired you to enter the pharmacy field as a career?
Bryan: I know it sounds cliché, but being able to help others in need is always a rewarding experience. After working as a pharmacy technician back in the day, I immediately fell in love with pharmacy. This field has afforded me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people over the years, whether it be patients, providers, or co-workers, and has really helped to keep things in perspective. I: has kept me grounded and truly thankful for the things most important to me, all while being able to work with so many amazing people and help those in need.
Fidelis Care: What is your message to colleagues and the community in celebration of National Pharmacy Week?
Bryan: The message is simple: Thank you! The support I’ve felt from this team and the community since my early days in pharmacy has been unmatched and has not only allowed me to grow but has made working in this field a genuinely rewarding experience. I challenge everyone reading to keep asking questions and stay true to yourself, especially given the rapid advances in technology. It can be very easy to get caught up in the commotion, however, as the role of AI continues to grow so does the value of the human element. By being your own advocate, asking difficult questions, and never losing touch of your core values, great things can and will be accomplished, not only for yourself, but more importantly, for others.

Fidelis Care: What inspired you to enter the pharmacy field as a career?
Sisley: Growing up, I saw how cultural or religious stigmas, limited access to care, and a knowledge gap about medications could have a real impact on people's lives. Watching family and community members struggle with conditions that are now highly manageable sparked my curiosity about healthcare and ultimately led me to pharmacy. After starting in retail pharmacy and later transitioning to managed care, I've learned that pharmacy is about much more than medication. It's about listening, problem-solving, building trust, and helping people navigate their healthcare journey. What I enjoy most is being able to look beyond a diagnosis and consider the whole person while making a meaningful impact on patient care and seeing how our profession continues to evolve, creating opportunities that didn't even exist when I graduated.
Fidelis Care: What is your message to colleagues and the community in celebration of National Pharmacy Week?
Sisley: Stay positive, stay curious, and never lose sight of the impact our profession has on people's lives. Healthcare is constantly evolving, and while it's easy to focus on challenges, it's important to recognize the incredible advances that pharmacy and medicine have made in improving patient outcomes. My own career has reinforced a lesson I often share with my team: your career does not have to follow a single predefined path. Be open to learning, embrace new opportunities, and continue building on your strengths. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is mentoring others and helping them grow into future leaders. If my career has taught me anything, it's that pharmacists are incredibly good at adapting to change, whether a new system, a new process, or a last-minute request, we'll find a way to make it work.

Fidelis Care: What inspired you to enter the pharmacy field as a career?
Connie: Growing up, I was inspired by my family members in healthcare. My two sisters became nurses, and relatives pursued careers as a pharmacist and a veterinarian. Seeing their dedication to helping others inspired me to follow a similar path. Witnessing how difficult it can be for some people, especially back home where I grew up, to access even basic healthcare, afford a simple checkup, or understand their medical care further strengthened my passion for healthcare and my desire to make a difference, even in the smallest ways.
Fidelis Care: What is your message to colleagues and the community in celebration of National Pharmacy Week?
Connie: Happy National Pharmacy Week! A shout-out to all my pharmacy colleagues who continue to show passion and dedication every single day, and to my supervisors and team leaders who are always there to lend a hand and support us. Their encouragement and recognition of the importance of even the smallest details of what we do mean so much. Whether it’s helping someone understand their medications, offering reassurance, catching important details behind the scenes, or simply listening to someone during a difficult time, what may feel routine to us, can mean so much more to the person on the other end of the line. I’ll never forget a member who once told me, “I can feel that you really care, that you want to help, and that you’re trying to save a life. Thank you.” Those simple words have stayed with me ever since, reminding me that even the smallest acts of kindness and care can make a meaningful difference.

Fidelis Care: What inspired you to enter the pharmacy field as a career?
Kelvin: When I was a teenager, my grandmother passed away from complications related to hepatitis C. A few years later, a breakthrough treatment became widely available that, when used correctly, could effectively cure the disease. Learning that a condition which had taken so much from my family could now be prevented from impacting others in the same way was life-changing for me. That moment sparked my desire to pursue a career in pharmacy. Over the years, I've worked in various pharmacy settings, from retail to specialty to hospital, and each role reinforced how meaningful it is to help people access the medications they need. Today, in my current role, I have the privilege of supporting teams and programs that improve health outcomes for our members. There is something incredibly rewarding about knowing that the work we do can change lives. Every day, I'm reminded that behind every prescription, every outreach effort, and every program is a person counting on us, and that purpose continues to inspire me.
Fidelis Care: What is your message to colleagues and the community in celebration of National Pharmacy Week?
Kelvin: This Pharmacy Week, I encourage everyone to take a moment and reflect on the difference we make every day. Remember our shared mission: to transform the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time. It is easy to become focused on the day-to-day demands of the job, but Pharmacy Week is a great opportunity to celebrate how far we've come and the countless members whose lives have been positively impacted through our combined efforts. To my colleagues: Thank you. Remember that what you do matters regardless of whether your work is behind the scenes or directly member-facing. Your commitment ensures the lives we touch every single day are improved, and you should feel proud of the difference you make.
