February, recognized as Black History Month, serves as an opportunity for us to reflect and uplift one another. This month, we also recognize the strength, achievements, and contributions of individuals throughout history who paved the way for progress despite incredible adversity. Black History Month is a time of both solemn reflection and joyful celebration. It’s an opportunity to share stories and inspire this and the next generation to continue creating and making history, continue unlocking doors, and continue stepping through them. Black History Month is a time that I celebrate every day as an African American woman. I take pride in the legacy and heritage of my ancestors. My grandmother lived to be 96 years old and always shared stories about “the old days.” I appreciate the resilience, determination, and sacrifices that have created the opportunities I enjoy today, both personally and professionally. I am dedicated to honoring it not only in February but also throughout the entire year. Durante este Mes de la Herencia Hispana, Latinos Unidos of the Hudson Valley reconoce que los problemas de salud son algunos de los desafíos más importantes que enfrenta la comunidad hispana. Las barreras idiomáticas y la falta de información en su lengua materna, junto con el estigma social, disuaden a muchos hispanohablantes de obtener ayuda para sus problemas de salud. Por ese motivo, Latinos Unidos tiene como máxima prioridad colaborar con Fidelis Care y otras organizaciones sanitarias para asegurarse de que la comunidad hispana tenga acceso a atención médica asequible y de calidad.

Mi herencia hispana es una fuente de orgullo y un recordatorio diario de una historia que da forma a lo que soy. Es más que solo un antecedente cultural, esta representa las luchas, aspiraciones y sueños de mis antepasados. Como una persona de origen colombiano, mi herencia es rica en tradiciones, resiliencia e identidad que viven en todos los aspectos de mi vida. Representa una historia que comparto ampliamente y me permite formar conexiones significativas.
