Fidelis Care is proud to support initiatives that expand awareness, reduce stigma, and improve access to resources for individuals affected by substance use disorders. Through our partnership with Shatterproof, we recently participated in two impactful efforts focused on education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Throughout October, employees and our provider partners united in support of Shatterproof and the movement to end addiction stigma, with participation spanning three areas of New York. Teams supported regional Walk Your Way events in Albany and Buffalo, along with the New York City Shatterproof Walk, bringing greater visibility to substance use disorder awareness across the state. Employees walked alongside providers, community organizations, advocates, individuals with lived experience, and families, demonstrating that addressing addiction requires partnership both within and beyond our organization. The events reinforced our shared commitment to reducing stigma, increasing understanding of substance use disorders, and advancing compassionate, evidence-based support for the individuals and communities we serve.
Building on that commitment, Fidelis Care partnered with Shatterproof Inc. and God’s Love We Deliver to host the first Provider Pathways Substance Abuse Information Forum at the organization’s SoHo location in New York City. The forum brought together clinicians from Sun River Health and Beacon Health Center, as well as social workers from The Bowery Mission, for an educational discussion focused on substance use disorder identification, treatment, and support resources.
During the session, the Shatterproof team provided an overview of how healthcare organizations recognize and address substance use disorders, while Fidelis Care Medical Director Dr. Celeste Johns presented available resources and support services for providers and community organizations. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions and shared valuable insights on strengthening care coordination and connecting individuals to appropriate services.
The forum received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with attendees expressing interest in future educational opportunities. The strong response underscores the ongoing need for provider education and collaborative community partnerships that help improve outcomes for individuals affected by substance use disorders.
As Shatterproof prepares to expand this initiative through a statewide series in 2027, Fidelis Care looks forward to continuing its work with providers, community organizations, and behavioral health partners to advance health equity, expand access to resources, and support healthier communities across New York.
