Regular health screenings with a health care provider can help men find health problems before they start. They also can help find problems early, giving men the best chance for successful treatment.

Men should speak with their health care providers about having these screenings:

Screening

Age 18-39

Age 40-50

Age 50-64

Age 65 and older

Glaucoma

Once every 2-4 years

Once every 1-3 years

Once every 1-2 years

Once or twice a year

Type 2 diabetes

 

Once every 3 years (starting at age 45)

Once every 3 years

Once every 3 years

Prostate cancer

 

Ask the provider whether this screening is needed

Colorectal cancer

 

Ask the provider how often this screening is needed

Blood pressure

Regular screenings recommended

Cholesterol

Regular screenings recommended

HIV

Screen if there may have been exposure

Skin cancer

Regular screenings recommended

Testicular cancer

Screen during annual physical exam

When visiting their providers, men should also speak about these important health topics:

  • Family health history
  • Feelings of anxiety or depression
  • Additional health screenings that may be needed
  • Eating and exercise goals
  • Personal habits, such as alcohol or tobacco use
  • Healthy sleeping habits
