Every April, Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) serves as a powerful call to action, highlighting the urgent need to address disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black women. Black Maternal Health Week is more than a week of awareness - it is a movement advocating for justice, equity, and dignity in maternal care.

In observance of National Minority Health Month this April, Fidelis Care is raising awareness about the health disparities facing minorities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), minority groups are more likely to have chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (April 9, 2025) Fidelis Care, a statewide health plan with more than 2.4 million members in New York State and a Centene Corporation company, is pleased to highlight the updated income guidelines for the Essential Plan through NY State of Health, adjusted to reflect changes in the federal poverty level. The federal poverty level determines income eligibility for public health insurance programs in New York State, including the Essential Plan. The Essential Plan aims to bridge the gap for those who may not qualify for Medicaid Managed Care but still need access to quality, low-cost health insurance.

April is frequently regarded as a time of rebirth, heralding the arrival of spring. During this month, flowers begin to bloom, birds fill the air with song, and the sun shines brightly, symbolizing renewal, growth, and new beginnings. And April is recognized as Counseling Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of mental health and support.

Doctors play an important role in keeping people healthy. They provide expert care, guidance, and compassion to patients every day. In honor of National Doctors’ Day, Fidelis Care thanks doctors everywhere who make a difference in our communities. We visited with doctors from provider partners Compassionate Family Medicine in Syracuse, Polaris Healthcare Visiting Docs in Spring Valley, and WNY Medical in Buffalo to get their thoughts in observance of National Doctors’ Day.
