EBT Benefits

SNAP provides members an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card to pay for groceries.

The EBT card looks and works like a debit card. Eligible foods include:

● Breads and Cereals  ● Dairy Products  ● Fruits and Vegetables

● Meats, Fish, and Poultry  ● Seeds and Plants (which produce food)

What is Electronic Benefits Transfer?

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is an electronic system that allows a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participant to pay for food using SNAP benefits. When a participant purchases an eligible item at a SNAP authorized retail store, their SNAP EBT account is debited to reimburse the store for food that was purchased. EBT is in use in all 50 states, and has been the sole method of SNAP issuance in all states since June of 2004.

DGA Dietary Guidelines

Since the first edition was published in 1980, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) have provided science-based advice on what to eat and drink to promote health, reduce risk of chronic disease, and meet nutrient needs.

The 2020-2025 DGA provides four overarching Guidelines that encourage healthy eating patterns at each stage of life and recognize that individuals will need to make shifts in their dietary choices to achieve a healthy pattern.
