Women’s Health

Staying healthy and well is one of the most important things women can do for themselves and for their loved ones, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some ways women can put their health first:

Stay Active

Regular exercise can help women boost their mood, maintain a healthy weight, and improve sleep. It also lowers risk for heart disease, breast cancer, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Women should speak with their doctor about what type of exercise is right for them.

Eat Healthy
Eating healthy can help women improve their health and prevent diseases. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. Avoid having too much sodium, sugar, cholesterol, saturated fats, and trans fats.
Get Regular Checkups
Regular checkups and wellness exams help women increase their chances of living a longer, healthier life. Women should check with their primary care provider about the care and screenings they need, and whether they should schedule an in-person or telehealth appointment.

Follow Recommended Screenings
Maintain Healthy Levels
A well-rounded diet and regular exercise can help keep women’s blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar at healthy levels. Women should talk to their primary care provider or heart specialist about safely reducing their risk and setting goals for a healthier heart.
Avoid Smoking
Smoking or using tobacco products greatly increases women’s risk of heart disease. Women who want to quit should speak to their primary care provider for help and to see if there are medications or nicotine replacement products that are right for them. Non-smokers who have high blood pressure or high blood cholesterol also have a greater risk of developing heart disease when they’re exposed to secondhand smoke.

Fidelis Care to Join With Centene
9/13/2017 • Posted by Fidelis Care

Fidelis Care has taken a major step to ensure that the company’s mission will be strengthened for the future by reaching an agreement under which we will become Centene’s health plan in New York State.

By joining with Centene, Fidelis Care will have the support, investment, and innovation that are necessary to meet the health care needs of New York State residents – today and in the future. Fidelis Care and Centene share a common mission, and like Fidelis Care, Centene also had humble beginnings, starting as a single health plan in 1984. Since that time, Centene has expanded its commitment to underserved populations. Today, Centene is one of the largest providers of Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and other government-sponsored and commercial programs in the country, serving more than 12 million members in 28 states while maintaining a local, decentralized approach.

Fidelis Care remains committed to the fulfillment of our mission, which continues to drive our focus on ensuring access to the highest-quality care and service for residents in all 62 counties of the State. Centene’s scale, expertise, and resources will enable Fidelis Care to further enhance the well-being of our members and continue to build linkages and systems for the coordination of care and services. Our shared goal is to improve the health care experience not only for members, but also for providers, who are our partners in quality care.

Once the agreement is finalized, Centene will maintain the Fidelis Care name, mission, and management team, and will welcome Fidelis Care’s more than 4,000 dedicated team members to the Centene family. Fidelis Care members will continue to use their Fidelis Care ID card, have the same benefits, see their health care providers, and work with the same Fidelis Care Representatives they’ve come to know and trust.
