Men’s Health Month in June is an excellent time to remind the men in our lives to focus on their wellness. It’s important for men to have a primary care provider and to get a checkup every year, even if they feel well. Many men don’t see a doctor unless they really need to. Men often say they feel fine, are too busy, or will get around to it “sometime.”

Beginning with the original “Unity in the Heights” event in 2011, the series has expanded across the state with a variety of local partners.

The hot summer months mean more time spent near and in the water. Water safety is important for children and adults. Here are some tips to help you safely enjoy the water: • Always watch children while they are swimming or near water. Never leave children alone near water. A child or weak swimmer can drown in less than a minute. • Teach children to always ask before they go in the water.

Each November is Prematurity Awareness Month. A premature birth is a baby born before 37 weeks gestation. In the U.S., about one in 10 births are premature. Babies that are born preterm can face serious health problems, so maternal healthcare is important to reduce risk and help babies be the healthiest they can be because there is no single cause of preterm birth.
