During Women’s History Month, Fidelis Care is pleased to recognize our 2025 Women of Impact. They serve our communities through education and inspiration. We salute these providers and community partners for making a difference every day. Their work keeps us moving forward together.

Social work is a calling for me, rather than a job. During this Social Work Month, I take great pride in discussing a career path that has helped so many others. I have been a medical social worker for over 35 years, the last eight here at Fidelis Care. I currently support the medically fragile children’s team. I also get tremendous satisfaction from researching and presenting my findings on various social work topics to my peers.

Endometriosis is a disease in which cells normally seen lining the uterus (womb) grow outside the uterus. It can cause inflammation, scar tissue, and pain, especially during menstrual periods. Endometriosis may also cause reproductive health issues like infertility.

Colorectal cancer is a disease in which cells in the colon or rectum grow out of control. It is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The American Cancer Society predicts there will be approximately 150,000 new cases of colorectal cancer in the United States in 2025, with as many as 53,000 deaths.

"Food Connects Us" is the theme for National Nutrition Month 2025, highlighting the important role that food plays in uniting individuals, families, and communities. It links us to our cultures, families and friends. It creates shared experiences and deepens our connections. Sharing a meal is more than just eating, it is an opportunity to learn about its preparation, who made it, and where the ingredients come from. Our relationship with food is shaped by health, traditions, memories, seasons, and accessibility. While these factors influence our choices, the food we eat, in turn, has an impact on our overall health and well-being.

August is “Kids Eat Right Month.” It’s a time to encourage children to build healthy habits that can last a lifetime. With the school year approaching and routines shifting, it’s the perfect moment to pause and take a closer look at what our kids are eating—and how we can better support them. Healthy eating isn’t about strict rules or “perfect” meals. It’s about creating a balanced approach to food that fuels our children’s bodies and minds - one meal (and one snack!) at a time.

Each August, we celebrate National Health Center Week to recognize the people and places that help keep our communities healthy. Health centers are more than just clinics, they are trusted neighbors that provide comprehensive care to millions of families, regardless of their income or background.

Each year, National Breastfeeding Month in August offers a chance to celebrate the strength, resilience, and nurturing power of mothers, and to recognize the community efforts that make breastfeeding success possible. At Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. (OCO), we know that breastfeeding is about more than milk, it’s about connection, healing, and the foundation of lifelong health.

Fidelis Care will host three Provider Office Hours in August 2025. During the webinars, Fidelis Care staff will be available to share information, provide an overview of provider resources, and answer your questions.
